Rododendronid/Rhododendrons

Rododendronid on siiani ühed mu vaieldamatud lemmikud.

Rhododendrons are still one of my absolute favorites. The first rhododendron in our garden was a nameless pinkish-white figure that kept sinking and sinking in its planting hole with the peat brought from the bog. The soil was carefully lifted bit by bit, but it got worse and worse in spite of everything, until finally he got a shovel. If it doesn’t fit, it doesn’t fit. A ‘Hachmann’s Feuerschein’ ® purchased at a fair was planted in the same place. A nice red rhododendron that bloomed with white flowers the following year. I was mean, but I didn’t weed him out. At some point it turned out that the white was the grafting base. And so we now have two varieties on one plant. White, of course, must be limited from time to time so that it does not proliferate excessively.

Sellelt algusaegade pildilt on hästi näha ka metspipar, mida sai rododele alustaimeks istutatud. Selgus aga, et see oli küll ilus mõte, aga rododel ta korralikult kasvada ei lase.

In this picture of the early days, you can clearly see the wild pepper, which was planted as a cover plant for the rhododendrons. However, it turned out that it was a nice idea, but he does not let the rhododendrons grow properly.

Esialgne istutusauk sai kaevatud piisavalt suur, vooderdatud tavalise musta kilega, mis kummalisel kombel on juba oma kakskümmend aastat vastu pidanud. Kuna ruumi oli, lisandus 2015 siia roosa rododendron Haaga.

The initial planting hole was dug big enough, lined with plain black plastic, which, strangely enough, has already lasted twenty years. Since there was space, the pink rhododendron Haaga was added here in 2015.

2021. aasta kuiv suvi mõjutas tublisti 2022. aasta õiterohkust.

The dry summer of 2021 greatly affected the abundance of flowers in 2022.

Viimastelt piltidelt on juba näha ka teine 2015 soetatud rodo: heitlehine rododendron Rosy Lights. Talle sai kaevatud igaks juhuks eraldi istutusauk.

In the last pictures, you can already see the second rhododendron purchased in 2015: the deciduous rhododendron Rosy Lights. A separate planting hole was dug for him just in case.

Rodod eelistavad teatavasti reeglina keskpäevapäikese eest varjatud kasvukohta. Päikese kätte võib aga julgelt istutada heitlehiseid rodendroneid, kui maapind nende all on korralikult multshitud. Päikeselisele kasvukohale istutasime imeilusa kollase rododendroni Golden Sunset.

As a rule, rhodos prefer a place of growth that is sheltered from the midday sun. Deciduous rhododendrons can be safely planted in the sun if the ground under them is properly mulched. We planted a beautiful yellow rhododendron Golden Sunset in a sunny place.

Kõigile meie rododele kaevatud istutusaugud on vooderdatud tavalise musta kilega, mille põhja on torgitud liigse vee äravooluks augud. Kevaditi saavad korra spetsiaalset rodoväetist, peale õitsemist murran ära äraõitsenud õisikud, vajadusel lisan rodomulda ja ongi kogu hooldus.

The planting holes dug for all our rhodos are lined with plain black plasitic, with holes punched in the bottom to drain excess water. In the spring, they receive a special rhodo fertilizer once, after flowering I break off the bloomed inflorescences, if necessary, I add rhodo soil and that’s all the care.
